aris Jackson has spent much of her adult life carefully deciding how much of her childhood she wants to share publicly. Growing up as Michael Jackson’s daughter meant living under extraordinary attention, but behind closed doors, she experienced a father very different from the larger-than-life performer millions of people knew.

“My dad used to tell us that it didn’t matter who he was outside the house—we still had to earn everything we wanted,” Paris revealed. Michael wanted his children to understand the value of hard work and repeatedly reminded them that fame and money shouldn’t determine how they treated other people.

She remembered that even simple rewards weren’t automatically handed to them. If the children wanted a particular toy or special privilege, their father would sometimes give them small tasks or encourage them to read and learn something first. Paris said those moments helped her understand that Michael didn’t want his children growing up believing the world owed them anything simply because of their family name.

There was also another side of him that Paris remembers vividly. Away from performances and cameras, Michael could be playful, protective, and deeply focused on giving his children experiences that felt normal. He encouraged creativity, played music around the house, talked with them about different cultures, and constantly reminded them to remain compassionate toward people who had less than they did.

Years later, those lessons remain some of Paris’s strongest memories of her father. To millions, Michael Jackson will always be remembered as one of music’s biggest stars, but Paris remembers something much more personal: the father who taught her that privilege came with responsibility and that the person she became mattered more than the famous surname she inherited.
