What’s the Real Normal Blood Pressure by Age? (It’s Not Always 120/80!)

Most people think 120/80 mmHg is the “perfect” blood pressure — but that’s not true for everyone. Blood pressure naturally changes with age, activity, and overall health. Knowing your age-appropriate range can help you spot early warning signs before problems begin.

Here’s what’s considered healthy blood pressure at different ages:

  • Adults (19–39 years): 120/80 mmHg
  • Middle Age (40–59 years): 125/85 mmHg
  • Older Adults (60+ years): 130/85 mmHg

Blood pressure has two numbers:
